Gujarat Announces Relief for Farmers Hit by Unseasonal Rains

Ahmedabad. The Gujarat government had announced a financial relief package of ₹10,000 crore in November for farmers whose crops were damaged by unseasonal rains.
So far, ₹5,330 crore has been distributed among 17.92 lakh farmers in the state, and the process is ongoing.
Of the farmers who applied for this relief assistance, 58 percent have received the aid, and the remaining 42 percent are yet to receive it.
According to available data, after the state government announced the relief package, more than 30.71 lakh farmers in Gujarat registered online to receive the assistance. Of these, the state government has so far approved the registrations of 26.60 lakh farmers.
It is noteworthy that heavy unseasonal rains and strong winds caused extensive damage to Kharif crops as well as houses in more than 16,500 villages of the state, creating a serious crisis for the farmers. In view of this, the Gujarat government announced the financial relief package on November 7.
Earlier, on October 20, the government had announced a financial assistance package of ₹947 crore for farmers whose crops were destroyed by extremely heavy rainfall and severe floods in August-September.
Along with this, the Gujarat government also announced the procurement of Kharif crops worth ₹15,000 crore, including groundnut, soybean, moong, and urad.
So far, 10.49 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds worth ₹7,537 crore have been procured from farmers at MSP (Minimum Support Price).
