India – Pigeon Pea (Tur/Arhar) Import Estimates: Rise in Imports
★ In the April–June quarter of FY 2025–26, India’s estimated total pigeon pea import is expected to be 235,368 metric tons, compared to 207,076 metric tons during the same period in FY 2024–25 – an increase of 28,291 tons.
Monthly comparison (FY 2025–26 vs FY 2024–25):
★ April: 99,546 tons (last year: 61,978 tons)
★ May: 88,973 tons (last year: 60,271 tons)
★ June (expected): 46,849 tons (last year: 84,826 tons)
★ There was a strong import flow in April and May, but June shows a decline compared to last year.

Myanmar had a good crop last season.
★ Africa’s production this year is expected to reach 1 million tons.
★ Harvesting in Africa is set to begin next month, with arrivals in India expected by the end of August.
★ Myanmar is trying to export as much as possible before the African crop hits the market.
★ With domestic demand firm ahead of African arrivals, prices are likely to rise in the near term.
★ As per agriculture department, the sowing area is lesser than last year. In major producing area crop condition is becoming a concern.
★ Production seems to be lesser than last year, which may decide the trend in future.
