Kharif 2025 Sowing Analysis – Soybean
★ Decline in soybean sowing, major drop in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat
★ According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture (Government of India) and various state agriculture departments, soybean sowing across the country reached 111.67 lakh hectares as of July 18, 2025. This is down from 118.96 lakh hectares during the same period last year – a decline of 7.29 lakh hectares.

State-wise sowing status:
★ Maharashtra (as of July 21, 2025): Soybean was sown on 46.73 lakh hectares, compared to 48.05 lakh hectares last year – a reduction of 1.32 lakh hectares.
★ Rajasthan (as of July 25, 2025): Sowing stood at 9.62 lakh hectares, down from 10.89 lakh hectares last year – a decline of 1.27 lakh hectares.
★ Gujarat (as of July 21, 2025): Sowing covered 2.24 lakh hectares, compared to 2.85 lakh hectares in 2024 – a decrease of 0.61 lakh hectares.
★ Karnataka (as of July 18, 2025): Area sown was 4.09 lakh hectares, slightly lower than last year’s 4.30 lakh hectares – a drop of 0.21 lakh hectares.
★ Telangana (as of July 23, 2025): Soybean sowing reached 3.49 lakh hectares, down from 3.62 lakh hectares in the previous year – a decline of 0.13 lakh hectares.
★ In total, these five states recorded 66.17 lakh hectares of soybean sowing, which is 3.54 lakh hectares less than last year.
★ The primary reasons behind this decline include falling market prices and a shift by some farmers toward alternative crops such as maize.
★ It is too early to comment on production prospects at this stage.
