Urad prices rise due to increased demand
Chennai. Urad prices remained bullish during the current week due to weak availability in the producing markets and increased buying. There has been a clear decline in the sowing of urad across the country during the Kharif season 2025. At the national level, the area under urad has come down to 14.45 lakh hectares, while last year it was 16.51 lakh hectares. According to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, the area under urad cultivation has decreased in many major states. India's estimated urad (black matpay) imports in the April-June quarter of FY 2025–26 stood at 1,96,877 metric tons, down 1.5% from the same period last year. April 2025: 98,798 tons (April 2024: 55,435 tons), May 2025: 56,362 tons (May 2024: 77,775 tons) and June 2025 (estimate): 41,717 tons (June 2024: 66,649 tons).
