Gwalior. A large quantity of mustard cake (DOC) has been exported from Madhya Pradesh to Bangladesh, but due to the extremely bad situation there,
the millers are not getting success in exporting their product. Due to this, business worth about Rs 150 crore has been affected and the livelihood of about 20 thousand people is in danger.
In Bangladesh, mustard DOC (rapeseed extraction) imported from India in large quantities is used in poultry feed and animal feed production. Gwalior-Chambal division of Madhya Pradesh is famous for the production of mustard and many crushing-processing units are operational there.
A large quantity of mustard cake is extracted from these units. Bangladesh has been an important buyer of Indian mustard cake, but at present an atmosphere of terrible political chaos is being seen there.
Although the process of sending onions from India to Bangladesh through waterways has started, it may take a long time for the situation to become completely normal.
There are more than 50 mustard oil mills in Gwalior-Chambal division, while more than 150 oil mills are operational in the neighbouring states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Nearly 90% of the mustard DOC produced in this region is exported to Bangladesh and it remains its most important market.
Due to recent violence and political instability, the lives of common people as well as the industry and trade sector in Bangladesh have been disrupted. In such a situation,
it is natural for the export of mustard DOC from Madhya Pradesh to come to a halt. It is not yet clear when the export process will be able to start.
Morena Oil Millers Association says that the situation in Bangladesh is very bad and it is difficult for the situation to improve until an elected government comes to power there.
The political instability in Bangladesh has almost completely halted the export business of mustard cake from Madhya Pradesh. Many racks of mustard cake are still standing. DOC was sent in only about 30 racks from Morena which has been closed since July.
