Yangon. More than 1.80 lakh tonnes of whole rice and broken rice were exported from Myanmar in the first two months of the current financial year (2024-25) i.e. during April-May 2024, which earned an income of $ 91 million.
According to the report of Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF), in April 2024, 1,11,462 tonnes of rice was exported from the country by sea route while 400 tonnes of rice was sent out through the border route.
In May 2024, rice exports declined to 71,279 tonnes.
Out of this, 70,751 tonnes were exported by sea route while 528 tonnes of rice was sent through the border route. It is noteworthy that Myanmar,
a country located in South-East Asia and India's northeastern neighbor, exports whole and broken rice to more than 20 countries of the world, including Indonesia, Philippines, China, Malaysia, Poland, Belgium, Holland and Vietnam etc.
During the entire period (April-March) of the financial year 2023-24, a little more than 16 lakh tonnes of rice was exported from Myanmar, which generated an income of more than $ 845 million.
It is worth noting that due to the domestic market price being very high and steep, the government had banned the export of rice from Myanmar for a few days last year, which was later lifted.
