More than 27.72 lakh tonnes of palm oil imported from Indonesia till May

Mumbai. Most of the edible oils in India are imported from countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Argentina and Russia. Apart from this, Thailand, Brazil, Romania and Ukraine are also important countries supplying edible oil to India.
Data compiled by the Solvent Extractors Association of India (C) shows that during the first seven months of the current marketing season i.e. from November 2023 to May 2024,
India imported the highest amount of 27.73 lakh tonnes of edible oil from Indonesia, which included import of 10.61 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein, 17.10 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO) and 2000 tonnes of crude palm kernel oil. Similarly,
a total of 17.27 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported from Malaysia along with 1.76 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein,
14.92 lakh tonnes of CPO and 59 thousand tonnes of crude palm kernel oil. 3.72 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported from Thailand which included 3.48 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil, 11 thousand tonnes of crude palm kernel oil and 13 thousand tonnes of crude soybean oil.
In Latin American countries, a total of 10.49 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported including 8.37 lakh tonnes of crude soybean oil and 2.12 lakh tonnes of crude sunflower oil from Argentina whereas 5.82 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported from Brazil which included 5.78 lakh tonnes of crude soybean oil and 5 thousand tonnes of crude sunflower oil.
In the countries of the Black Sea region, about 9.71 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported from Russia which included 8.89 lakh tonnes of crude sunflower oil and 82 thousand tonnes of crude soybean oil. Similarly,
a total of 2.78 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported from Romania along with 8 thousand tonnes of soybean oil and 5.42 lakh tonnes of sunflower oil, and 5.50 lakh tonnes of edible oil, including 2.63 lakh tonnes of sunflower oil and 15 thousand tonnes of soybean oil.
