Mumbai. Traditionally, Gujarat’s Mundra port has been the leading hub for India’s oilmeal (oilseed DOC) exports, but in the first five months of the current fiscal year, Mundra surged far ahead of others. Mundra port, located in Gujarat, has consolidated its top position in export shipments.
According to data compiled by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA), India exported 1.794 million tonnes of DOC during April–August 2025, about 4 percent lower than 1.869 million tonnes shipped during the same period in 2024. During this period, soybean meal exports fell from 0.849 million tonnes to 0.757 million tonnes, and castor meal exports declined from 0.117 million tonnes to 0.107 million tonnes. On the other hand, rapeseed meal shipments rose from 0.885 million tonnes to 0.915 million tonnes, while groundnut extraction exports jumped threefold from 5,000 tonnes to 15,000 tonnes.
Compared to last year, oilmeal exports through Mundra port jumped 54 percent from 0.411 million tonnes to 0.634 million tonnes in April–August 2025. Pipavav also showed growth, rising from 12,000 tonnes to 19,000 tonnes. In contrast, shipments from Kandla port slumped 40 percent from 0.683 million tonnes to 0.411 million tonnes, while exports from Mumbai/JNPT dipped slightly from 0.304 million tonnes to 0.301 million tonnes. Other ports saw shipments decline 4 percent from 0.448 million tonnes to 0.429 million tonnes.
As a result, during the review period, Mundra accounted for 35 percent of India’s oilmeal export shipments, Kandla 23 percent, Mumbai/JNPT 17 percent, Pipavav 1 percent, and other ports 24 percent.
India’s major buyers of oilmeal during this period were China, South Korea, Bangladesh, Thailand, Germany, Vietnam, and France. The decline in DOC shipments to Vietnam, however, has emerged as a matter of concern.
