Guntur. Farmers in the southern state of the country - Andhra Pradesh are busy making necessary preparations for the cultivation of Kharif crops.
Meanwhile, after doing an in-depth study and analysis of the price estimates for major crops in the state, the Agricultural Market Vigilance Center of Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University,
Guntur, has indicated that during the Kharif marketing season of 2024-25, instead of paddy and maize, farmers in the state can get better and attractive income from the cultivation of pulses, groundnut, cotton, red chilli and turmeric.
The interesting fact is that during the current year, the cotton acreage in the state is expected to decrease slightly as other crops proved to be more profitable for the farmers in comparison.
But cotton exports from India to Bangladesh, China and Vietnam are expected to increase, due to which its price is expected to remain strong in the future.
Similarly, due to better export performance of turmeric, its price is likely to remain high. Its production had also decreased. As far as red chilli is concerned, the export demand for Teja variety is quite strong, especially from China.
According to Agricultural Market Vigilance Centre (Amic), the future price of agricultural products is estimated on the basis of analysis of various factors,
which include outstanding stock of products, potential sowing area, estimated demand and consumption and export and import trends etc.
According to the centre, the total production area of Kharif fruits in Andhra Pradesh is estimated to reach 59.73 lakh hectares during the current year and the market price of almost all crops is likely to remain stable around the minimum support price. This may provide some relief to the farmers.
