Karnal. Wheat acreage is increasing significantly during the current Rabi season compared to last year, and farmers in northern states are sowing high-yielding varieties early as the ideal time for cultivation is soon approaching.
It is noteworthy that in Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh, wheat is sown early in the northern region, while sowing begins later in other states.
The Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, based in Karnal, has advised farmers interested in cultivating high-yielding and weather-resistant wheat varieties to complete sowing by November 20th, 2025, to prevent further weather impacts.
This is the ideal time to sow these specific wheat varieties, and completing sowing by November 20th increases the chances of achieving the highest wheat yield.
According to the institute, farmers who sowed wheat in October should regularly remove weeds from their fields. Sufficient soil moisture is likely to lead to rapid weed growth, which can deplete soil nutrients.
Wheat production is increasing significantly, reaching 6.623 million hectares by November 14th, a 17 percent increase from 5.655 million hectares during the same period last year.
Wheat sowing is entering its final stages in Punjab and Haryana. The vigorous harvesting of Kharif crops, especially paddy, is clearing fields quickly,
which is helping farmers accelerate wheat sowing. Wheat sowing has also begun to accelerate in western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
