Mumbai. Union Food Secretary and Chairman of International Sugar Organization has said that the sugar and ethanol sector needs to focus on a three-dimensional strategy.

He said that this year India is assuming the responsibility of Chairman of International Sugar Organization (ISO), which is a matter of happiness.

In September 2023, India made a strong effort to join the Global Biofuel Alliance to make its significant efforts and maximum contribution towards freedom from carbon emissions and increase in the use of ethanol. Its objective was to provide a clean world to the coming generations. India will continue to make its best efforts to achieve the objectives set by this alliance.

During the ISO Council Meeting held from 25 to 27 June in New Delhi, the Chairman has said that Brazil and India are the two most prominent sugar producing countries in the world, which together contribute about 50 percent to global production.

The process of ensuring adequate supply and availability of sugar at the global level should continue. For this, farmers should be encouraged to produce sugarcane in greater quantities and at the same time,

the production and use of ethanol for clean fuel should be increased. In India, the outbreak of El Nino weather cycle started last year, which partially affected sugar production. During the current year, production is expected to improve due to good monsoon rains.
