New Delhi. Sugarcane and sugar production is expected to increase well in India during the 2024-25 season, but the government has indicated that there is no plan to allow sugar exports at least during the current season. It is known that India is the largest consumer of sugar in the world and the second largest producer after Brazil.
The government first wants to see the performance of southwest monsoon rains in different parts of the country and if everything remains normal,
then consideration can be given to allowing sugar exports in the next marketing season. The new marketing season will start from October 2024 and continue till September 2025.
According to the Union Food Minister, better sugarcane production is being estimated this time as compared to last year, but it will mainly depend on monsoon rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has predicted more than normal rainfall. On the issue of permission for sugar export, the Food Minister said that first it would be necessary to see how the rainfall situation is in the monsoon season and then sugar production will be estimated.
Production and stock will be assessed and the position of domestic demand and consumption will be seen. USDA has estimated the production of about 20 lakh tonnes of sugar in the country during the current marketing season of 2023-24.
Free export of sugar from India is not allowed and its shipment can take place only on the basis of permit issued by the government.
The government has not been issuing permits for a year. -Bharti Agri App (I Grain India) I Grain India, Delhi I Grain India, Delhi
