Sugarcane crop benefits due to good rains in major producing states

New Delhi. The crop is benefiting greatly due to good monsoon rains in the country's three top sugarcane producing states - Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Apart from this, there are indications of better monsoon rains in other important producing states like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh.
This time the area of sugarcane is ahead of last year and if the weather and monsoon conditions remain favorable, its average yield rate and average recovery rate of sugar are expected to improve. Looking at the current scenario,
it seems that the domestic production of sugar may increase during the marketing season of 2024-25 (October-September).
Since the previous outstanding stock of sugar is likely to be very high in the next marketing season, so if there is an indication of better production during the season, then the government can seriously consider allowing the export of sugar.
The sugarcane sowing area reached 56.88 lakh hectares in June itself, which was 1.43 lakh hectares more than last year's production area of 55.45 lakh hectares.
This time farmers are showing good interest in sugarcane cultivation. Due to severe drought in August last year, sugarcane production in Maharashtra and Karnataka was reduced and it was also affected in Uttar Pradesh.
ISMA has estimated domestic production of 320 lakh tonnes of sugar during the 2023-24 season. Some critics believe that in the next marketing season, the government may allow the use of more quantity of sugarcane (sugar) in ethanol production, so less emphasis may be given to sugar exports.
