Vancouver. Although lentil sowing has either ended or has reached the final stage in countries like Canada, Australia, Russia, Kazakhstan and America, some weather related problems persist in all these countries.
In western Canada, the weather is generally considered favorable, but due to heavy rains in some areas, the moisture content in the soil of the fields has increased a lot, due to which there is a possibility of less germination of seeds,
while there is also a danger of increased infestation of insects and diseases on the crop. Similarly, in Queensland and northern New South Wales provinces of Australia, the weather is normal to a large extent and moisture is also present in the fields due to the rains in the autumn season,
but due to lack of rain in South Australia province, there is a serious threat to the lentil crop. Lack of rain is also being felt in Russia and Kazakhstan. In America,
there has been torrential rain at some places, while there is an atmosphere of drought at other places, due to which the condition of lentil crop remains uncertain.
In India, the price of lentil has increased a bit in recent days, which seems to indicate that either its production has been much less than the government estimate or the big farmers are not willing to sell their stock at a lower price.
Relatively less import from Australia and Canada can also be a reason for the improvement in the price of lentil. The government stock of lentil is also said to be less.
During the current week, the price of lentil remained almost stable in Canada. The price of thick green lentil is 75 cents per pound, small green lentil is 72 cents and red lentil is 36 cents per pound.
The price of medium green lentil is stable at 50-52 US cents per pound. Lentil sowing has ended in Canada.
