Weekly Review – Moong

Moong prices in the domestic market witnessed an upward trend this week, driven by easing selling pressure and improved demand. Supply-side pressure remains limited as arrivals of the new Moong crop in producing markets have not reached expected levels, thereby lending strength to prices. Yields per hectare are expected to be lower this season due to deficient monsoon rainfall in several states. Additionally, Moong sowing acreage during the Kharif season has been lower compared to the previous year. These production-related concerns are bolstering market sentiment. Amidst low arrivals, buying activity from pulse millers and stockists remains robust; millers are purchasing according to their requirements, while stockists are also showing interest in buying at current rates. This has maintained a strong balance between market demand and availability. Going forward, if arrivals of the new crop remain limited and miller demand stays strong, the upward trend in prices could continue. However, a shift in market direction could occur if arrivals of the new crop increase as anticipated. Driven by strong demand from pulse millers, Moong prices in Delhi recorded a significant surge of ₹650 per quintal this week, climbing to the range of ₹7,800–₹8,650 per quintal.

Due to reduced selling by stockists and rising demand, Moong prices in Rajasthan recorded an increase of ₹300–500 per quintal during the current week. Consequently, weekend prices stood at ₹7,200–8,450 in Jodhpur, ₹6,800–7,700 in Jaipur, ₹8,000–8,800 in Merta, ₹8,000–9,200 in Nagaur, and ₹7,500–8,300 in Kishangarh per quintal.

Increased buying activity led to a rise of ₹300–500 per quintal in Moong prices in Madhya Pradesh during the week. By the weekend, prices were ₹6,000–8,100 in Pipariya, ₹7,800–8,000 in Indore, ₹5,000–7,500 in Jabalpur, and ₹6,701–7,800 in Kareli per quintal.

An improvement in demand resulted in a price increase of ₹200–300 per quintal for Moong in Maharashtra during the week. Weekend prices settled at ₹8,000–11,000 in Latur, ₹6,850–9,050 in Akola, ₹9,000–10,000 in Barshi, ₹7,000–10,000 in Ahmednagar, ₹7,000–7,700 in Jalgaon, and ₹8,000–9,200 in Khamgaon per quintal.

Improved buying activity led to a rise of ₹100 per quintal in Moong prices in Lalitpur this week, bringing the weekend price range to ₹6,800–7,300 per quintal.

Driven by a rally in Moong prices and sustained buying interest, Moong dal prices rose by ₹300–₹500 per quintal during the week. By the weekend, prices stood at ₹10,400–₹13,000 per quintal in Delhi, ₹9,900–₹10,600 in Jodhpur, ₹9,400 in Jaipur, ₹9,100–₹10,100 in Bhatapara, ₹10,200–₹10,400 in Jalgaon, and ₹9,600–₹10,300 in Indore.
