Paddy Prices Rise Despite Heavy Arrivals; Mixed Trend in Rice
New Delhi: Heavy arrivals of Basmati, 'A' Grade, and Basmati paddy have commenced in key markets across major producing states. Driven by robust buying interest from millers, processors, and exporters, a trend of rising prices and market strength is being observed.
Arrivals
During the week of September 19–25, average daily paddy arrivals rose to the following levels: Delhi (Narela) 40,000–50,000 bags; Najafgarh 2,000–2,500 bags; Bhatpara 3,500–5,000 bags; Rajim 3,000–4,000 bags; Amritsar 1.25–1.40 lakh bags; Tarn Taran 80,000–90,000 bags; Etah 3,000–5,000 bags; Mainpuri 6,000–12,000 bags; Jahangirabad 40,000–50,000 bags; Shahjahanpur 75,000–90,000 bags; Khair 40,000–50,000 bags; Aligarh 60,000–80,000 bags; Taraori 10,000–15,000 bags; Tohana 18,000 bags; Gohana 2,000–3,000 bags; and Gondia 2,000 bags.
Supply
Additionally, paddy supplies have begun to trickle into other markets as well. Millers and processors are showing keen interest in procurement, resulting in price increases ranging from ₹100 to ₹300 per quintal across various paddy varieties and grades.
Prices
At Delhi's Narela market, the price of '1509 Combine' paddy rose by ₹170 to reach ₹3,700–₹3,740 per quintal. In Najafgarh, prices rose by ₹270, reaching ₹3,700–₹4,070 per quintal. Paddy prices in Rajim and Bhatapara saw an increase ranging from ₹50 to ₹200. In Amritsar, the price of '1509' combine-harvested paddy rose by ₹105. At the Jahangirabad mandi, the price of Sharbati paddy surged by ₹280 to reach ₹4,100–₹4,230 per quintal.
Rice
However, rice prices showed a mixed trend, rising in some areas and softening in others. As there have been no positive outcomes from the talks between the US and Iran, nor any decision regarding ensuring the unhindered movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Indian exporters are adopting a cautious approach to purchasing Basmati rice for export purposes.
Bhatapara
In Bhatapara, the price of Vishnubhog rice dropped by ₹500 per quintal; conversely, in Amritsar, prices increased by ₹150–₹250 per quintal due to some buying activity. A softening trend was observed in Karnal, while prices remained stable in Delhi (Naya Bazar).
