Long holiday led to little activity in the peanut market
New Delhi. Like other commodities, the peanut market experienced a calm and stable atmosphere during the week of October 18-24. From October 18-23, markets in states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh either remained closed or saw negligible peanut arrivals. On October 24, 15,000 bags of peanuts arrived in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, 6,500 bags in Mahoba, and 4,500 bags in Mauranipur, with prices ranging between ₹4,000 and ₹5,200 per quintal.
Peanut Seeds
Dehulled peanut seed trading also saw sluggish trading, resulting in no change in prices. In Bikaner, peanut seed prices were recorded at ₹8,500 per quintal for 40-50 counts, ₹8,300 per quintal for 50-60 counts, and ₹8,000 per quintal for 60-70 counts.
An Indonesian delegation will soon visit India to attempt to resolve the export suspension issue. Indonesia is a major buyer of Indian peanuts, but its imports were suspended in early September citing the presence of aflatoxin.
Groundnut Oil
Loose peanut oil was not traded significantly in Gujarat and Maharashtra, while weak demand in Bikaner and Tonk/Newai, Rajasthan, led to a decline of ₹10 per 10 kg and in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) by ₹20 per 10 kg.
Branded Oil
The price of branded peanut oil remained stable at ₹2,300 per tin (15 liters) in Kota, Rajasthan. Similarly, the price of filtered peanut oil remained unchanged in Jaipur and Newai.
Peanut Oil Cake
Peanut oil cake and DOC prices also remained stable. Peanut production is showing signs of improvement this year in top producing states like Gujarat and Rajasthan. Government procurement in Gujarat is expected to begin soon.
