Soybean Market Softens Due to Pressure from New Inflows
New Delhi. New soybean arrivals have begun to increase in major markets in the three top producing states – Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, as well as other states, while demand from crushing and processing units remains weak.
Plant Delivery Prices
As a result, some softening in the plant delivery price of soybean was recorded during the week of October 18-24. Soybean prices in Madhya Pradesh ranged from ₹4350-₹4450 per quintal, while in Maharashtra, they reached ₹4500 per quintal in some places. Plant delivery prices in Rajasthan were ₹4400-₹4450 per quintal.
MSP
The Central Government has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of soybean to ₹5328 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing season, an increase of ₹436 from the 2024-25 season's MSP of ₹4892 per quintal. Loose soybean prices are trading significantly lower, but government procurement has not yet begun, causing significant losses for farmers.
Soybean Oil (Refined)
Soybean refined oil prices also remained largely stable, with very little trading during the week. In fact, the market remained closed from October 18th to 22nd, limiting trade activity. Soybean refined oil prices fell by ₹10 per 10 kg in Mumbai and ₹3 per 10 kg in Haldia.
Arrivals
On October 24th, 4.80 lakh bags of soybean were supplied to markets nationally. Of these, 2.20 lakh bags arrived in Madhya Pradesh, 1.70 lakh in Maharashtra, 50,000 in Rajasthan, and 40,000 in other states.
Soybean DOC (Millets)
Demand from domestic and foreign buyers for soybean DOC resulted in a softening or stability in prices. SOPA has projected domestic soybean production to fall to between 10.5-10.6 million tons during the 2025-26 season, while other analysts predict a mere 8.5-9 million tons. Imports of cheap soybean oil from abroad continue to be heavy, while soymeal export performance has weakened.
