Increased Arrivals Lead to Softening of Tur Dal Prices

Mumbai. Due to increased selling pressure at higher prices and limited demand in the market, tur dal (pigeon pea) prices showed a downward trend this week. Farmers and traders increased selling at higher prices, while dal millers' purchases remained limited to their immediate needs, shifting the demand-supply balance against prices. Increased arrivals of tur dal in producing markets improved availability. The continuously increasing arrivals put pressure on the already high prices, and prices could not be sustained. Increased arrivals of the new crop and the release of stocks led to increased competition in the markets, resulting in a softening of prices. Due to increased selling by importers and limited demand, Mumbai African tur dal prices fluctuated by Rs. 100 per quintal this week, and with this fluctuation, prices at the end of the week were: Mozambique White 5800/5850 rupees, Gajri 5700/5750 rupees, Matwara 5550/5600 rupees, Malawi 5100/5150 rupees, and Sudan 7100 rupees per quintal.
