Attempts to Inflate Edible Oil & Oilseed Prices Through Rumors & Misinformation
★ Over the past month, there were widespread rumors about an increase in import duties on edible oils. Some companies even halted sales, claiming that current prices would not apply if duties were raised. However, no such hike occurred.
★ This week, a false rumor spread that Indonesia would stop palm oil exports, which also proved incorrect.
★ According to I-Grain India, edible oil and oilseed prices are currently at low levels. Considering the current scenario, prices are expected to rise in the future.
★ Recently, China imposed tariffs on U.S. imports of soybeans, soybean oil, and soybean meal.
★ As a result, China is likely to reduce its imports from the U.S., benefiting Brazil and Argentina.
★ This import duty decision could also impact India.
★ If China diverts its soybean demand to Argentina and Brazil, crushing activity there may decline, leading to reduced availability of soybean oil and soybean meal, pushing prices higher.
★ If soybean meal prices rise, India's soybean meal exports could increase.
★ Apart from this, several other factors indicate a potential bullish trend in the edible oil and oilseed market in the near future.
