The demand for rice produced in Telangana has been steadily increasing, both domestically and internationally. In India, rice from Telangana is becoming popular in states such as West Bengal, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

Additionally, countries in Asia, including Malaysia and the Philippines, are showing growing interest in Telangana's rice.

The state's rice is being supplied through the Food Corporation of India (FCI), which distributes it via the Public Distribution System (PDS) in other parts of India and is now also preparing for export to foreign markets like the Philippines.

The Telangana government has recently received permission from the Indian central government to export rice to the Philippines.

The state plans to export at least 10 lakh tonnes of coarse rice, with an official agreement expected to be signed with the Philippines within the next week. Negotiations are ongoing with other countries for similar exports.

Rice from Telangana is in high demand due to its quality, which has impressed foreign delegates, especially those who attended the Global Rice Summit held in Hyderabad in June 2024.

At the summit, Telangana's Civil Supplies Corporation showcased samples of the state's top-quality rice, sparking further interest. With talks underway with countries like Malaysia and Indonesia, Telangana is on track to become a major player in global rice exports.

However, the state government is keeping export contracts confidential to protect against competition in the global market. If these agreements go through successfully, Telangana could emerge as one of the leading rice exporters in India.
