Favorable weather boosts Canadian lentil crop progress

Vancouver. Lentil sowing has concluded in Canada's Prairie region, and favorable weather conditions are ensuring good crop progress. Market prices for lentils remain largely unchanged, though the healthy crop condition is beginning to exert pressure on the market.

While crop conditions in Canada are favorable, production of Kharif pulses in India—particularly *arhar* (turvar/pigeon pea)—faces potential disruption due to a lack of rainfall and the impact of El Niño. Since lentils are considered a viable substitute for *turvar*, efforts to increase lentil imports may be undertaken.

Meanwhile, Australia is also anticipating excellent red lentil production, driven by an expansion in the sown area and favorable weather conditions across key producing states.

Consequently, intense competition between these two leading suppliers is likely in the global lentil export market in the coming months. In Canada, prices for red lentils and large green lentils are currently hovering at similar levels.
