Indonesia remains at the top in supply of edible oils to India

Mumbai. India imported about 56.40 lakh tonnes of edible oil during the first five months of the current marketing season (November 2024 to March 2025).
This included 6.63 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein, 17.24 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil, 29 thousand tonnes of crude palm kernel oil, 19.11 lakh tonnes of crude degummed soybean oil, and 13.13 lakh tonnes of crude sunflower oil.
Indonesia maintained its position as India’s top supplier, exporting over 14.33 lakh tonnes of edible oils—comprising 5.71 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein, 8.61 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil,
and 1 thousand tonnes of crude palm kernel oil. Malaysia followed with 8.40 lakh tonnes, including 82 thousand tonnes of refined palmolein and 7.32 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil.
Thailand's contribution was limited to 25 thousand tonnes of crude palm oil due to higher prices affecting overall palm oil imports.
Argentina was the second-largest supplier, exporting 13 lakh tonnes of edible oil, including 12.16 lakh tonnes of crude soybean oil and 84 thousand tonnes of sunflower oil. Brazil supplied 3.28 lakh tonnes of crude soybean oil.
Russia emerged as the third-largest exporter with 9.92 lakh tonnes, including 1.62 lakh tonnes of crude soybean oil and 8.30 lakh tonnes of sunflower oil.
Ukraine also exported 3.08 lakh tonnes, including 2.97 lakh tonnes of sunflower oil. Additionally, 4.13 lakh tonnes of edible oil were imported from other countries.
