Kabuli Chickpea Prices Firm Amidst Normal Trading in Canada

Toronto. Kabuli chickpea prices in Western Canadian markets remain relatively firm, with trading proceeding at a normal pace.
The price for No. 2 quality, large-seeded Kabuli chickpeas is currently reported to be around 26 cents per pound. Lots containing 30–40% seeds sized 9mm or larger are likely to command higher prices, whereas lower-quality stock is trading at lower rates. Buyer activity remains moderate.
Sowing of Kabuli chickpeas is underway in Canada, though the pace is slower compared to last year. Weather-related challenges persist, causing delays in planting in some regions. As the ideal sowing window is nearing its end, it appears that the actual planted area may fall short of earlier projections.
While recent rainfall has benefited the crop, it has also increased the risk of pest and disease outbreaks. Canada currently holds substantial stocks of Kabuli chickpeas.
