News Capsule: Monsoon Remains Weak; India’s Rainfall 43% Below Normal Till June 22
★ India received 3.3 mm of rainfall on Monday, 52% below the normal level of 6.8 mm. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cumulative rainfall during June 1–22 stood at 60.6 mm, which is 43% below the normal 106 mm.
★ All four major regions of the country recorded below-normal rainfall on Monday. Central India received 79% less rainfall than normal, Northwest India 55% less, South Peninsular India 47% less, and East & Northeast India 18% less.
★ Out of the country’s 36 meteorological subdivisions, 18 recorded “large deficient” rainfall and 12 reported “deficient” rainfall. Only four subdivisions received normal rainfall, while one recorded excess rainfall and another recorded large excess rainfall.
