Nod for Procurement of Pulses & Oilseeds in Gujarat, UP

New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Minister has approved the proposal to procure major Kharif pulses and oilseeds in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Under the category of oilseed crops, peanuts and soybeans will be procured in Gujarat,

and sesame and peanuts in Uttar Pradesh. Mung beans will also be procured in both states. This procurement will be done at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) announced earlier. An amount of ₹13,890.60 crore has been approved for this purpose.

According to the Union Agriculture Minister, 100% procurement of black gram and pigeon pea from farmers will be ensured, and the entire procurement process will be made transparent. Necessary instructions have been issued to the state governments, and funds have also been allocated.

The Agriculture Ministers of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, the Union Agriculture Secretary, and senior agriculture officials from both states and the Centre were present at a virtual meeting chaired by the Union Agriculture Minister.

The Agriculture Ministers of both states assured the Central Government that the procurement of pulses and oilseeds from farmers will be done using modern biometric systems and POS machines. There will be no scope for irregularities in procurement through the digital portal.

In this meeting, approval was given for the procurement of 227,800 tons of black gram, 113,780 tons of pigeon pea, and 1,983 tons of green gram in Uttar Pradesh during the current Kharif season.

Furthermore, proposals for the procurement of 30,410 tons of sesame seeds and 99,438 tons of groundnuts were also accepted.

In Gujarat, the procurement of 47,780 tons of black gram, 109,905 tons of soybean, 1,262,163 tons of groundnuts, and 4,415 tons of green gram has been approved.

According to the Agriculture Minister, this procurement quantity is not final and may be revised based on the first advance production estimate for the 2025-26 season. It is known that Gujarat is the country's leading peanut producer. The arrival of pulses and oilseeds in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat is expected to pick up pace next month.
