Offer Prices for Pulses from Exporting Countries Soften for Supply to India

Mumbai. Offer prices for pulse shipments to India from major supplier nations recorded a slight softening on May 28 compared to May 21. For May-June shipments, the export offer price for Urad (black gram) fell from $885 to $880 per tonne in Brazil, and from $905 to $895 per tonne in Myanmar. Myanmar is the largest supplier of Urad.

As for Desi Chana (desi chickpeas), the offer price from Australia for supply to India remained stable at $610 per tonne, inclusive of shipping costs. However, the export price for Canadian green lentils firmed up from $610 to $615 per tonne.

In Russia, it remained steady at $505 per tonne. India does not import green peas, and imports of Kabuli Chana (Kabuli chickpeas) are also minimal. Conversely, India exports significant quantities of Kabuli Chana. For shipments to Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the export offer price for Indian Kabuli Chana recorded a softening of $5–10 per tonne.

India primarily imports Tur (pigeon pea) from Myanmar and various African nations. During the period under review, the export price of Tur (on a C&F basis) for supply to India remained stable in Tanzania; however, it declined from $655 to $640 per tonne in Mozambique, and from $830 to $825 per tonne in Myanmar, while in Malawi, it firmed up from $605 to $610 per tonne.

The export price for red lentils remained stable at $610 per tonne in Canada and $580 per tonne in Australia. As for yellow peas, the export price in Canada slipped from $385 to $380 per tonne, while in Russia/Ukraine, it fell from $330 to $328 per tonne.
