Request to Lift Ban on Export of De-Oiled Rice Bran

Mumbai. The Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) has once again urged the Central Government to lift the ban on the export of rice bran extract (de-oiled rice bran or DORB) that has been in place for the past two years.
The Association's President stated that citing supply and availability issues in the domestic market, the government banned the export of DORB in July 2023, even though the country previously exported 5-6 tons of de-oiled rice bran annually.
This provided valuable foreign exchange to the country and helped the industry reduce its stockpiles. However, the situation changed after the ban.
The Association has repeatedly urged the government to lift this ban, as it is causing significant difficulties for the rice bran industry.
Limited domestic demand has led to a significant drop in the price of rice bran extract, while mill stocks have increased significantly.
India previously exported large quantities of DORB to countries in South-East Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan, and these markets are still eager to buy it, but the ban has prevented Indian exporters from capitalizing on this opportunity.
India has long strived to establish a strong position as a reliable supplier in the international rice bran extraction export market, but this is being thwarted by government policy.
