Strong demand to lift the ban on export of rice bran extractors

Mumbai. The Solvent Extractors Association of India has once again appealed to the Central Government to lift the ban on the export of rice bran extraction or de-oiled rice bran (DORB).

In a press release, the association highlighted that the export of DORB, a key ingredient in animal feed, was banned on 28 July 2023, and the ban has been extended repeatedly, most recently until 30 September 2025.

While all categories of rice exports have now been exempted from restrictions, the export of DORB remains banned. The association has previously submitted memorandums urging the government to reconsider, citing significant economic, agricultural, and environmental concerns.

According to the association, rising production and falling domestic consumption have led to a surplus of DORB, causing prices to decline and millers to incur heavy losses.

This is particularly impacting millers in eastern states like West Bengal and Odisha, where income levels are falling due to limited market access.

The association also noted that with the increasing use of DDGS in animal feed, there is a need for policy adjustments.

It urged the government to remove the DORB export ban to restore balance in the industry and ensure smooth production of rice bran oil.
