Urad production, supply, and stock
★ In 2023-24, total urad production stood at 24 lakh tons, which increased to 25 lakh tons in 2024-25. For the full season 2025-26, production is estimated to remain at 25 lakh tons, including 14 lakh tons from kharif.
★ In 2024-25, urad imports touched a record 8.2 lakh tons, compared to 6.24 lakh tons in 2023-24. For this year, imports are expected to decline slightly to around 8 lakh tons due to better domestic production.

★ Urad remains a preferred pulse among Indian consumers due to its unique taste and versatile usage. Even after the opening of yellow pea imports, urad demand has remained largely unaffected.

Urad import scenario
★ Between April and June 2025, India imported a total of 2.29 lakh tons of urad, lower than the 2.56 lakh tons imported during the same period in 2024.
★ In the previous financial year 2024-25, India imported 8.2 lakh tons of urad, significantly higher than 6.24 lakh tons in 2023-24. However, imports are expected to decline this year.
★ Out of total imports during April-June 2025, 1.71 lakh tons came from Myanmar and 0.18 lakh tons from Brazil. In the previous year, 7.15 lakh tons were imported from Myanmar and 0.84 lakh tons from Brazil.
